I am a member of the United Houma Nation located in Southeast Louisiana. I learned about my heritage from family stories and watching their traditions.  But, for the most part, my family assimilated into society once they moved to the city. They still were avid hunters and fisherman and made their own boats and nets.

The tribe has been fighting for federal recognition for decades and I was fortunate enough to become acquainted with the tribal elders when I assisted with the enrollment and organizing members in various areas.   I also spent time visiting other tribes all over the country to learn their teachings and history.

I received some powerful gifts as well as guidance.  Not long after, I experienced my first vision and knew my path was to surround myself in the Native American spirituality.
